Springtime Wrap Dress

I've been spending many of my weekends this winter sewing away! Most of the time I am making comfy pajamas and lounge clothes to wear around the house, but this weekend I made a wrap dress for spring. I found this pattern back in November and held onto it until this week when I found some beautiful cotton florals at Hobby Lobby for $3 a yard. Perfect for testing out a new pattern! I was hoping to make a Star Wars dress, but I didn't want to risk ruining a beautiful batch of expensive fabric if the dress didn't turn out right or if the sizing was off.

I used McCall's pattern M7627 for this dress. Everything about the pattern was very straight forward and easy to follow, except for the sizing. Every time I've used a McCall's pattern, I find that their sizing on the package and the "finished garment" measurements are way off. According to their measurements, I should've chosen a size 10, but I stuck with my gut feeling and picked the smallest size on the pattern- a size 6. Thank goodness I did! It was a perfect fit. If you are new to sewing, I recommend reading pattern reviews before you cut your size. A lot of women online said that this pattern ran about a size or two big and I'm glad I listened to their advice.

This was such a fun and affordable project to make. Because I found such cheap fabric and there are no notions (buttons, zippers, trimmings, etc) for this dress, it only cost me $18 to make. Score! I also have enough leftover fabric to make a couple zippered cosmetic bags.

Now I just need the weather to warm up so I can wear this all the time!
