New Year, Even More Goals

My most recent post was about how 2017 ended up being a stellar year and how I achieved the three small goals I set last January. While you guys probably don't care about what goals I set personally, I'm writing them down here as a permanent reminder to go back and read at the end of 2018 to see if I've accomplished these things. While they might seem silly, here are my goals for this year.

I'll be honest about something that I really don't like to admit. I am terrible at reading. I never read books nor do I enjoy reading books. Every time I sit down to attempt reading a new book, I get about 10 pages in and feel lost or uninterested. On occasion I will read biographies (and by occasion I mean like once a year). However, I never read fiction which is really weird since I love Star Wars so much. This year one of my goals is to read more books. Most of them will probably be Star Wars novels because that's something that will quickly hold my attention. I'd like to read one book a month, even if it's a short one, and really get better at reading comprehension as well as analyzing the story. This month I've started reading The Legends of Luke Skywalker and to keep me accountable on finishing it, I've committed to reviewing it on my podcast. Again, this might seem like a small or silly goal, but for me it's a really huge deal. Rather than sitting on my couch every night and watching something on Netflix, my goal is to read the next chapter of a book.

As for my next goal, you all will probably think this is crazy. I really want to work on my personal style this year. I know what you're thinking, "What? Personal style? You post about your style all the time here!" Well, believe it or not, I don't dress like that every day. By day I am a video producer at a very laid back company so I typically wear jeans and a T-shirt every single day. It's comfortable and functional. Wearing dresses and skirts aren't really the best idea when you're bending over to set up camera gear or standing on a ladder to move a light. However, I want to work on making this "jeans and T-shirt" deal look somewhat fashionable and not a frumpy "I woke up like this" outfit. I want to invest more into my wardrobe rather than spending $10 here and there on crappy shirts that will be worn twice and fall apart. So far I've scored some amazing denim from Madewell Poshmark for $40 each (usually $150 a pair) and some durable Trask leather boots for $30 (usually $350-$400 a pair). I'm all about saving money, so while figuring out a functional personal style, I also want to find great deals on quality clothes.

My last big goal is to focus more on The Dorky Diva Show. Last year I was really unmotivated to podcast and build a community around the show because I rarely even listened to other podcasts that made me engage in the community. However, after listening to other shows like Skytalkers over the last couple months, I've been super amped up to play a bigger part in the online Star Wars podcasting community. In 2017, I wasn't consistent with how often I recorded shows. This year I am committed to recording one show every single month, and hopefully some bonus episodes in between! I've been planning this month's show for a few weeks now, bought a higher-quality microphone, and invested more into building a little online community for those that listen to the show. I can't wait to see what happens with The Dorky Diva Show this year!

I've also set other personal goals relating to my job and saving money, but for the most part those three goals to read more books, work on my personal style, and focus more on The Dorky Diva Show are going to be big achievements for me when I stick to them throughout the year. What are your goals this year? No matter how silly they may seem, I want to hear them! Leave a comment below.
