I feel like a total beginner seamstress despite the handful of things I've made. In the past I've made simple skirts, pajamas, easy quilts, blankets, and a dress. Following patterns is not my strong suit, but I'm really proud of how this skirt turned out. I chose an evergreen colored corduroy (my first time sewing with this material) and the McCalls M7981 pattern to create my skirt. The pattern caught my eye because I loved the button details down the front and hello- it has pockets! It took me an entire day to make, which sounds like a long time, but I ran into some speed bumps at the end. My automatic button hole maker wouldn't work because the fabric was too thick and then I had to alter the waistband because it was a few inches too big. Despite those hiccups, the rest of the project was fairly easy and I'm in love with the results!
I haven't worn it anywhere special yet, but I wanted to
style the skirt to show off my sewing project and a few accessories I've picked
up recently. Surprisingly I haven't gone too crazy this year with buy new
clothes or shoes because I'm trying to cut down on my wardrobe size, but
these leopard
boots from Madewell caught my eye a month ago and I couldn't stop
thinking about them. Treat yo self! I also got this beautiful fan-made Princess Leia necklace by Unicorn Crafts from WonderCon back in March. The clutch I'm using is from
the Coach x Star Wars collection. I
rarely see Boushh Leia featured on any merchandise, no less a beautiful bag, so
this was ordered as soon as I saw it online. The pouch is sold out, but a similar
tote with the same design is still available.
Have you ever sewn anything? How did it go for you? I'm hoping to make a Christmas quilt soon, but I have a pile of flannel waiting to be made into pajama pants this weekend!
